Bylaw Updates

This year we applied for our AGLC Casino License which will allow us to have our own gambling fundraisers including 50/50’s and Bingo’s, but also allows us to work the casino and receive a share of the profits. We have been granted a conditional license (allowing us to be put on the casino waiting list) but the following changes are required to be approved in order to get our full license.

The final change is made at the boards discretion to allow more flexibility in the way they work.

Bylaw Changes

Bylaw Change Summary

  1. In the past board members may receive an honorarium when they assisted operations by delivering our Inclusivity Training, now that we are properly staffed, this assistance is no longer needed, and AGLC prohibits compensation for board members.
  2. The wording of one bylaw was ambiguous making it seem that the Executive Director had sweeping power to change the composition of the board or membership. This change clarifies that they only have the power to change staffing composition.
  3. In practice the board chair only votes to break a tie, the wording around these bylaws was a little ambiguous, which led to concern that the Board Chair may get an initial vote and the tie breaker vote. AGLC requires that everybody only receives one vote, which matches what we have done in practice and these revisions just ensure clarity.
  4. Instead of mandating 10 regular meetings a year, we are proposing to reduce that number to 5 so that working circles can meet during the months that do not have a meeting. This is not a reduction in the time commitment of the board, it is a shift to allow working circles to take place in lieu of regular board meetings, to allow for the board's work to progress faster.
